This morning in church was an exciting time. No, not because we sang Because He Lives AND How Great Thou Art. And not because the sermon was superb, focusing on how we are to Labor Well in our jobs and places as Christians.
No, it was exciting in a different, sort-of selfish way. Today, we started our very first edition of “Countryside Communication”! This is an initiative we will hold the first Sunday of each month in order to allow our church family to be fully informed of what is going on in our neck of the woods and also to share opportunities to plug-in to upcoming events.
I decided it wouldn’t be enough to share it with only our church family, as there is so much support out there from our family and friends as well on the blog. This way, even if you cannot physically be there like our church people can, you can surely pray for the things that are going on.
And it will also serve as a way to inform those who may not have heard the presentation at church.
Side note: We are so encouraged by the love and support New Hope has shown the people of Countryside. You are awesome!
So, without further ado…
I say that way too much.
Some terminology to start with:
“Countryside Chat”: This will be held the first Wednesday of every month from 6:15-6:45pm where we will meet in the fellowship hall to explain in more detail the events and topics of the month. If you have any questions or want to know how you can plug into that month’s event, we would love to be there to answer your questions. The first Chat will be Wednesday, October 2nd where we will discuss the Fall Festival.
“Countryside Connection”: We will call each event (Yard Sale, Fall Festival, etc.) the Countryside Connection. This is to remind you that you are connecting with the people and also providing a bridge to connect them to Christ.
We have really seen God work in neat ways as the children have started back to school. Grant has been able to spend a lot of time with some men in the neighborhood and have some great conversations. We also have had opportunities to take our neighbors to doctor appointments, the grocery store, and fix more bikes.
We also have began “Homework Helpers” on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4-5pm. We have consistently had about 5 kids and many eager adults ready to help. Some come just to have a quiet place to do their work while others need help with their work. We are providing a light snack and juice when they finish their work. If you would like to donate to that, please see Billie Ruth. If you would like to join us on Tuesdays or Thursdays, please sign up on the table in the foyer.
As we continue to Prayer Walk in the community, we invite you to join us. You will find a sign-up sheet for this as well at the Countryside Corner in the foyer. We have listed out specific Saturdays for you to come. We had a powerful time in prayer 2 Saturdays ago with Tammy Brown and anticipate great things!
Love-a-Child is another exciting opportunity for you to participate. We have paired up the children with the adults who have signed up. Matches were made after prayerful consideration. If this is an area where you would like to serve, please let me know and we will get you a child! This is a chance to pray for the child, have them sit with you in church, send them a birthday card, and just get to know them. Pictures will be provided of your child for you to have a visual reminder to pray for them.
Name That Trailer! We are giving you the opportunity to get your creative minds working and help us name the ministry trailer! You will find slips of paper and a drop box in the foyer starting Sunday, September 15. This will end Sunday the 29th and the winner will be announced Sunday, October 6th. If your submission is chosen, you will win a fabulous door prize! I promise you won’t want to miss it…so start thinking…what would be a good name? What would make the people of Countryside proud? What would represent Christ? Let us know what you think!
Our next big event is the Free Yard Sale on Saturday, September 21 from 8-12. This will be in conjunction with the CARE closet clean-out. There are many areas where help is needed to make this a successful event. The opportunities will begin on Tuesday, September 17th where we will work in the CARE closet and begin loading the trailers. We will also do this Thursday and Friday before the give-away and then will begin set-up on Saturday morning at 5am. No matter if you are an early morning person or a late night person, we will have something for you to do. We also need registration, prayer table workers, and people to help the guests find items. Another need will be trailers and tarps. I can guarantee there is a spot for you! Please see the sign-up sheet in the foyer along with a detailed listing of each job description.
Along with the Free Yard Sale, we will be doing a trash bag donation. This will be for the guests to bag up their items. This will start tonight and end Wednesday, September 18th.
On the table in the foyer you will also find opportunities to sign up for the bus ministry, and flyer distribution, along with commitment cards to support The Hinson’s on this journey.
Some needs we have for the ministry trailer: refrigerator, love seat, couch. If you have any of these lying around, please consider donating them to the trailer.
Again, we thank you–both church family and blog family–for your love, support, prayers, and encouragement that you have shown us in the short time we have been in South Carolina. Even though I always say it, we are excited about what God has planned for Countryside and we anticipate great things!
