There are some songs you have heard all your life and you sing along just purely out of habit and because you like the tune. Sadly, many church songs are like this. I have always enjoyed the song, How Great is Our God, but tonight I heard it completely different.
How great is our God, sing with me.
How great is our God, and all will see.
How great, how great is our God.
All will see. Everyone. When Jesus returns and reigns victorious, every knee will bow and every tongue will confess that He is Lord. All will see how great is our God.
We gathered together for worship tonight in a crowded living room and sang that song. I immediately felt the tears well up in my eyes at the realization that ALL of Countryside will see that God is great. Either now or later, but it’s inevitable that ALL will see.
This week the mission team has come to support us as we share that news with our neighbors. They have shared it, too. And not only with our neighbors, but in two new communities as well. They shared stories from their prayer walk this morning of people coming out of their homes requesting prayers from the team. Just yesterday–when they started prayer walking–they didn’t have any conversations with people. Today, they were praying with hurting people.
You can’t tell me prayer isn’t powerful!
Prayer is what will turn hearts to see how great is our God.
After a morning of prayer walking, we were blessed with a lunch by the Classical Conversations Homeschooling Group. Later during the Backyard Bible Club at The Connection, we took the middle school and high school girls to a party to kick-off a summer Bible study. Nancy walked them through a painting and I think they enjoyed themselves. We are praying for them to return next week as we begin a study of Esther. Will you pray for them too?
After the afternoon session the team was treated to a night of swimming and great food. We headed over to Nancy’s parents and jumped in their pool for a much-needed cool-down while they grilled burgers and hot dogs. It was just what we all needed after a terribly hot day.
After swimming we gathered together to worship our great God. Nancy and Hannah led a devotion and challenged us to work with other members of the body of Christ to accomplish His purposes.
My heart is full and my feet are tired. I am excited to see what tomorrow holds after all the prayers that have been lifted for this week. Pray with us that more will come to the realization that God is the only way.
